Revelation 8:1-5
8 When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. 3 And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne, 4 and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. 5 Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and there were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

We often have thunder, earthquakes and lightning when the presence of God is revealed. Think back to Mt. Sinai, when God descended upon the mountain to give the commandments to Moses. The same is true of God appearing before the prophet Elijah. Also, these things occurred when Jesus Christ died upon the cross. The revelation of God often comes with signs of power.
It makes sense, of course. God is the most powerful being in the universe. He ought to be accompanied by signs of power.
Which makes the way he loves us all the more amazing. God doesn't use his power to make us feel small. He uses his power to lift us up, to love us and forgive us. God uses his great power to love us with great force, and that power is used to defeat our enemy, the one we have created by our sin: death. God chooses to be for us.
So know that God loves you, that nothing shall separate you from his love, and that the most powerful force in existence is working alongside you.
