It's hard to believe that we'll have another baby within the next two weeks. We're two weeks plus a day to the due date, but I'll be shocked if she stays in the womb that long.
We've been doing whatever we can to teach Caleb that a baby sister is on the way. He knows that his baby sister is in Rachel's stomach (she ate the baby!), but I doubt that it's very real to him. Of course, it's not that real to us, either, and we actually know it's going to happen. We're looking forward to spending some time with Caleb this weekend, just the three of us, to remind him once more of how much we love him. We're hoping to reinforce that as much as possible, so that this transition will go as smoothly as it can. We know it's not going to be seamless, but we've done everything we can to make it go as well as possible.
We don't know what the future holds. We're excited about the arrival of a baby girl, and while we're excited and joyous about her arrival, we look around at the landscape of our lives and wonder how we add more time into it. We know that hearts expand and love runs wild, but we also know that energies are limited and attention spans can fray. We pray for strength and for wisdom and for guidance, but at the end of the day we trust that we will love as we have been loved, and we go forward, day by day, into the future God has in store for us.
